Pageantry, ceremony and celebrities all played a part in making the 133rd annual Platte County Fair a success. The annual celebration was held Wednesday through Saturday at the fairgrounds in Tracy. Organizers believe attendance was up this year, particularly for the first two nights of the fair. The fair opened with the crowning of the queen on Wednesday night. In the above photo, the queen and some of her attendants are pictured. Lonestar, honored as the County music Association’s best new vocal group in 1996, excited the crowd by performing their hits, including the number one smash “No News.” The Landmark secured a back stage interview with the band. A Ferrelview man has been convicted on one count of sexual abuse in the first degree and two counts of abuse of a child. The conviction of Garland Burton was returned by a jury Thursday in Platte County. John R. Cady, of the law firm Cady and Campbell in Platte City, served as special prosecutor in the case.
