HE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN DEPARTMENT ADVANCEMENTS

After 14 years, Mike Ashcraft has stepped down as a member of the Central Platte Fire Protection District Board of Directors.

Ashcraft joined the board in 2012 after the death of Floyd Coons, Jr., and went on to serve through some interesting times, including the deaths of two fire board members– Stanley George and Paul Regan–on the same day (Jan. 19, 2019, from unrelated circumstances) that temporarily left Ashcraft as the only member of the board.

He also was on the board as the fire department hired its first full time fire chief in Troy Miller in 2023, and took steps to implementing full time fire crews.

Miller presented Ashcraft with a token of the district’s appreciation at Ashcraft’s final meeting on Tuesday, April 14.

“I feel very good about leaving now,” Ashcraft said, indicating he feels the department is in good shape. He said the department is “leaps and bounds” ahead of what it was previously.

“The community believes in us. And we believe in the community,” he remarked.

Ashcraft said the district’s recent move to go from a three-member board to a five-member board has been a great thing for the department.

“It gives more sets of eyes on things,” he said.

“We’ve come a long way and Mr. Ashcraft has been instrumental through a large portion of it,” Miller said.

Ashcraft said he has enjoyed his time and playing a role in the development of an improved department.

“It has just been one wonderful thing after another,” he said.
