Hoeger, three aldermen file for election

DEADLINE FOR CANDIDATE FILINGS IS DEC. 30

Platte City Mayor Steve Hoeger has filed for reelection. Hoeger put his hat in the ring on the first day of the filing, which was last Tuesday, Dec. 9. No other candidate has filed for mayor as of Tuesday morning Dec. 16.

Senior tax credit program expands

Hoeger was first elected mayor in 2024. The position at the time was a two year term. Recently the city made a change to switch all of its elected positions to four year terms, effective with the April 7, 2026 election.

Other positions up for election at the City of Platte City include a ward one alderman spot, a ward two position and a ward three post. Dan Laxson, the incumbent in ward one, has filed for reelection, Jesse Bennett, the current alderman in ward two, has filed, and Debbie Kirkpatrick current alderman in ward three, filed late in the day on Tuesday.

As of 4 p.m. on Dec. 16 no candidates had filed to oppose any of the incumbent aldermen.

Filing, which can be done at City Hall, closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
