Sign violations and potential traffic dangers brought two local convenience stores to the attention of Parkville’s board of aldermen in a meeting Tuesday evening. After a brief discussion, the board voted unanimously not to revoke the business license of the Circle K convenience store located at 6316 Hwy. 9. In violation of the city’s signage ordinances, the convenience store received a summons for erecting five unauthorized signs, one along the east side of the drive by Hwy. 9 and four flags on the frontage of the property. Attorney Charles Brown, the store’s managing officer, took full responsibility for what he described as a “product of miscommunication and failure of follow-through on our part.”
It took only a few seconds for the 50-year-old Hwy. HH (Main Street) bridge across I-29 at Platte City to come down Saturday morning at 6:30. With a series of well placed initial quick burning explosives, the structure was compromised enough for a larger detonation to lay the bridge across the four lanes of I-29 where traffic had been stopped for about 10 minutes. When the smoke cleared, traffic was diverted over the north and southbound ramps, and work began on removing the debris.
Adam McGinness, local banker and president of the Platte City Chamber of Commerce, was elected to the Platte County R-3 School Board on Tuesday. McGinness and incumbent Mary Temperelli were top vote-getters at R-3, winning the two open seats.
