Take part in small town tradition as parade master Chuck McKeon leads his annual St. Patrick’s Parade through historic Parkville on the river on Saturday. The Parkville Chamber of Commerce is co-sponsoring the event this year. In addition to the parade, an old fashioned bake sale, pie raffle, and “luck-o-the-Irish” drawings will be held at many local shops and restaurants. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. when the parade heads north on Main from the Farmers Market. If you would like to enter in the parade, contact Chuck McKeon at McKeon’s Old Place, 816-741-4337. Winners for the drawings will be chosen at 4 p.m.

Donald “Sonny” Haugland, owner of the Sonny Hill group of automotive dealerships that has filed for bankruptcy, thinks his business will be able to survive its financial woes and continue in operation. “I still think we can work it out. If I didn’t think that we wouldn’t go through the effort,” Haugland said in an interview with The Landmark on Monday.

The report found that the 1990 census showed Platte City’s population at 2,947. There are 1,300 acres currently within the city limits.
