The city council for the City of Platte City has passed an ordinance calling a special election on Aug. 7 for a one percent sales tax. The tax would become effective on Jan. 1, 1980. All receipts from the retail sales in Platte City that are subject to Missouri state sales tax would be taxable.

The former Roanridge Church north of Barry Road on I-29 has fallen under the demolition wrecker. The church stood near the spot where in 1941 a tornado destroyed the huge round barn, a Platte County landmark for many years.

The public is invited to attend the cornerstone laying ceremony to take place Saturday, July 28 at the new Rising Sun No. 13 Masonic Lodge Hall, A.F.&A.M. on Barry Road. The lodge began plans for building the new hall three years ago to meet the needs of its suburban location and growing membership. Construction began this summer. J.C. Montgomery, grand master for the state of Missouri, assisted by Grand Lodge officers and other Masonic units will conduct the ceremony. A reception will follow the ceremony. Entertainment will be provided by the Ararat Shrine Temple Band.
