WRONG WAY DRIVER NEAR DEARBORN
Three people were killed in a head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 29 in Platte County early Thursday, July 11.
The crash occurred at 12:11 a.m. on southbound I-29 not far from the Platte-Buchanan county line near Dearborn.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as a 2017 Ford Edge was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. The Edge struck a 2007 Honda Odyssey head-on. The Odyssey then ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a concrete barrier.
A total of seven people were in the Odyssey, three of them were killed, one suffered serious injuries, two suffered moderate injuries and the patrol lists the other’s injuries as “unknown.”
Early reports indicate the wrong-way driver of the Edge was taken into custody and taken to a hospital for treatment. The patrol’s report does not identify the wrong-way driver nor list the extent of his injuries.

Killed were:
Joel Similien, 55, driver of the Odyssey; Sheyla Similien, 54; and Michelet Metellus, 52.
Injured were:
Vladimyr Mercier, 33, moderate injuries; Jacnert Lubin, 37, serious injuries; Franckel Francois, 54, moderate injuries; Herilert Bellot, age unknown, extent of injuries unknown, according to the highway patrol report.
Eight members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol were assisted at the scene by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.
