Police have suspect in string of Platte City burglaries

Cpt. Jake Becchina of the Kansas City Police Department media unit says two KCPD officers were working off-duty security at Walmart. The officers took a man into custody for investigation of shoplifting, officers escorted the man to the security office. Police say while the man was seated in the office, officers observed the man attempt to swallow an unknown object. Becchina says officers attempted to get the man to spit the object out but he refused. Police say the man began to have difficulty breathing and then lost consciousness.

According to police, officers immediately began to render aid and called for EMS. Police say officers continued lifesaving efforts until EMS arrived and took over. EMS transported the man to the hospital for treatment in life threatening condition, and the man was later pronounced dead at the hospital. He was identified as Christopher Christian, age 45.

After the incident, which occurred about 6:30 p.m., detectives responded and worked with crime scene investigators to process the scene at Walmart.
