Despite the “closing” of I-29 from 10 p.m. last Friday night till 6 a.m. Saturday morning, at 4:30 a.m. the traffic was fairly heavy around the workers who are refurbishing the Dearborn exit bridge. I-29 traffic was actually routed over the north and south exit ramps while the bridge itself, connecting Dearborn with New Market, was totally shut down. Tail lights and headlights created artistic patterns in a front page photo by Bill Hankins, using 20-second exposure.


Four employees at businesses in Platte City received citations for selling alcohol to minors. The four businesses listed by the Platte City Police Department in violation of the city’s ordinance are Bresette’s Price Chopper grocery store, Olive or Twist liquor store, Red Dragon restaurant and Maria’s restaurant.

An Edgerton woman who slipped and fell off a curb maintained by the Missouri Department of Transportation has been awarded $550,000 in damages by a board of arbitrators. Linda Matthews, 54, sued the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, a six member board that governs MoDOT, after she was injured tripping on an uneven shoulder surface on Z Hwy. in Edgerton. Matthews, who declined to comment for this story, sustained a right shoulder separation and a left tibia fracture from the fall. She had surgery to repair the leg fracture. Matthews incurred about $59,000 in medical bills.
