Bones were found in the basement of the former Main Street Community Theatre building, 246 Main in Platte City, last week and were turned over to the medical examiner on Friday. The basement had been sealed up at least since the 1950s, possibly longer, until reopened recently by building owners Dave and Mary Ann Brooks. Medical examiner Marion McMillan has determined no foul play was involved with the bones, explaining they are believed to be part of an “anatomical skeleton,” probably used as a display model of some type for a doctor. The cut made on the skull was “an old cut,” not done with modern tools or of the style used in autopsies of this day and age. He believes at this time the bones were a collection and were simply put in a box for storage.
A 19-year-old Platte City man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of the Comfort Inn in Platte City in the early morning hours of Feb. 8. The suspect is a resident of an apartment complex close to the motel, and he was arrested by Platte City Police last Wednesday. The suspect was linked to the scene by an employee who thought he recognized the man outside the motel near the time of the robbery. He has been charged with armed robbery and armed criminal action and bond has been set at $100,000. Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Vic Peters said the suspect will appear in Platte County Associate Circuit Court on March 1. He said the suspect is a former employee of the motel.
