Plans for a $1.5 million “state of the art” regional shooting range in Platte County was announced by commissioner Scott Spangler at the county commission meeting Thursday. The range will be built at Parma Park located at I-435 and FF Highway. The facility will include classrooms and areas for pistol, rifle, shotgun and bow practice. Spangler said he received a petition with 500 names in support of the shooting range. He also received many letters expressing desire for the range, including a request by the sheriff asking for a practice range to keep certification up for police officers.

In an emotional farewell, retiring Platte City Municipal Judge Jack Hansel said goodbye to the Platte City Board of Aldermen Tuesday night and thanked them for the support they showed him during their terms. Hansel is, in effect, being forced to step down because of a recently passed state law that lowered the mandatory retirement age for municipal judges from 75 to 70. The law states judges over age 70 cannot hold court. Hansel is 74.

The city of Camden Point is asking voters to authorize a $300,000 bond issue to help pay for a sewerage system. The city plans for bonds to cover about one-fourth of the estimated $1.3 million in construction costs.
