Between the Lines column by Ivan Foley: The humble and tiny burg of Tracy–best known for its political in-fighting and as the site of the Platte County Fair–could be on the verge of a development explosion of relative proportions. Developer Bill Mann is proposing a commercial development just west of I-29 at Tracy. Among the businesses in the plan: a truck stop with a 40-seat restaurant; retail space of 20,000 sq. ft. with 10 employees; an antique store with 15,000 sq. ft. and six employees; a warehouse of 20,000 sq. ft. and 20 employees; and a body shop with 6,000 sq. ft. and eight employees. And if you want to dream a little, a hotel site is listed as “optional” in Mann’s plan for his ground near the interstate. Mann is the guy who kicked off much of Platte City’s development in the 90s with the project known as the Platte Valley Plaza near I-29 and Hwy. 92.

A new proposal for the controversial Lake at Tomahawke Ridge housing development was recently submitted to the Platte County Planning and Zoning Department. The new proposal changes the number of homes from the previous 686 to now 655 on 319 acres. The development is proposed several miles east of Platte City on Hwy. 92.
