A pilot was killed and his passenger injured when a small plane crashed on the edge of KCI Airport on Monday. John C. Dart, 73, was killed while trying to make an instrument landing, said officials. He had radioed KCI before the crash that his plane’s gyroscope had failed. The passenger was Dart’s son-in-law, Wilber Lala of Belize in Central America. Lala was taken to Liberty Hospital.


Police Chief Alan Lowry displayed a plaque that was awarded to Platte City for having more than 70 percent of motorists wearing a seat belt. A survey was taken this summer by the police to check on seat belt usage. Lowry said Platte City did better than the national average, which is about 63 percent. He reminded that the laws of the state now require a person driving a car to wear a seat belt and those not doing so can be fined.

Ellen Gerdes and Jeffrey Naumann were united in marriage at their home in Agoura Hills, Calif. on Aug. 1, 1992. Parents of the couple are Clarence and Susie Gerdes of Platte City and Howard and Sandra Naumann of Barefoot Bay, Fla. Honor attendants were Karen Gerdes, sister of the bride, and Howard Naumann, father of the groom. Receptions were held at the home following the ceremony and on Aug. 29, 1992 at the Basswood Springs Resort.
