Police say four took OTC medicine for recreational effects
Four students at Platte County High School were taken to the hospital Thursday morning after intentionally consuming over-the-counter medication for recreational effects, police say.
Sgt. Mike Mand with the Platte City Police Department says one student became ill at about 9:20 a.m. at the school, and at the time it was believed to be an isolated incident. Then at 11:07 a.m. emergency responders were dispatched to the high school at 1501 Hwy. 92 in response to three more students becoming ill. All were transported by ambulance for non life-threatening symptoms. All had “poisoning/overdose symptoms,” police say.
Police at this time are not saying what the medication was, and all involved students are under the age of 18 and considered juveniles, Mand said. The incident is being referred to the Platte County Juvenile Office.
Multiple law enforcement vehicles and multiple ambulances responded to the scene at the high school.
