The Platte County R-3 Spirit Squad will be going to the Missouri Cheerleading Association state competition once again this year. The squad became eligible for the opportunity by placing first in the 3A school show (cheer and dance) division at the regional cheerleading competition and clinic held at North Kansas City High School on Aug. 24.


On the back side of the Platte County Courthouse next to the sheriff’s department, a new exercise yard will be constructed to give inmates a chance to get some outdoor air. The yard to be built will be covered with mesh to keep people from throwing objects in or out and will contain a basketball goal. It will be monitored by video cameras and “walk by” visits of sheriff’s deputies.

Dearborn Community Betterment Association is making plans to erect a memorial to community veterans who have served their country during a time of conflict. To be located on the grounds of City Hall, the monument’s style is in the planning stages. This would be the first memorial to veterans to be built in a town in Platte County.


Platte County R-3 High School graduate Tracy Shannon is a member of the 1991 Peru State College volleyball team. Shannon a 5’5″ setter/backcourt specialist, is a sophomore after redshirting the 1990 campaign with an injury.
