Mr. and Mrs. John Morelli of Platte City announce the engagement of their daughter, Lorna, to Steve Torrez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lupe Torrez of Sterling, Colorado. Lorna is a 1972 graduate of the Platte City High School.


Mrs. Billie Kay Rollins, first grade teacher in the Independence School District, recently received the Master of Arts in Teaching from the Kansas City campus of Webster College. She is the daughter of Mrs. Lorene Woods.

Miss Teresa Ann Schmitt and Mr. Thomas Sampson were united in marriage on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 7, 1976 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Gladstone, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Schmitt of Platte City and Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Sampson of Kansas City are the parents of the couple.


Hal Hetherington, Mark Verdoorn and Scotty Williams returned home last Friday night after attending Powell’s Top of the Nation Wrestling Clinic in Estes Park, Colorado. Mark and Hal received second place ribbons and Scott received a first place ribbon to represent the Clay-Platte YMCA.


The Platte County Steam Engine Show is this weekend at the Platte County Fairgrounds.


Platte City Masonic Lodge No. 504 has acquired the Methodist Church property in Platte City at Third and Oak Streets. It is their intent to keep this 100-plus year old structure in tact while adapting the property to lodge and appendage bodies’ functions as well as community uses.
