Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Beste have announced the engagement of their daughter, Barbara Ann Beste, to David Ralston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ralston. Barbara is a 1981 graduate of Platte County R-3 High School and is now employed at the Gift Horse. David is a 1977 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School and is currently employed with Ed Grisham’s Construction Company of Platte City. A late August wedding is planned.


Chonchala Keskeaw and Kevin Swearngin were united in marriage July 11 in a 2 p.m. ceremony at the First Baptist Church of Platte City. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Chaluey M. Smith of Kansas City and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Swearngin of Warsaw. The Rev. Mel Lantz, pastor of the church, performed the double ring ceremony. Best man was Lance Swearngin, brother of the groom. Matron of honor was the bride’s mother.

Beverly Burnett of the county recorder’s office tries out the soft drink dispenser at the new Platte County Courthouse canteen on the first floor next to the recorder’s office. The county court established a lounge and canteen to provide a place for employees to eat lunch and relax and also provide a place where visitors to the courthouse can get a cold drink and a snack. The county gets a share of the profits.
