A former assistant county counselor who is considering making a run for Platte County auditor is accused of assault on a process server and resisting a police officer. R. Michael Gunn, 60, has been charged with the offenses in Kansas City Municipal Court. Gunn, of Weatherby Lake, is the former assistant counselor to the Platte County Commission. He was removed from that post after new commissioners Tom Pryor and Jim Plunkett chose to go a new direction. For several years, Gunn specialized in planning and zoning legal work for the county commission.

Financial meetings are finishing up this week in Platte County, as the commission is looking to establish the county government’s 2006 budget. Auditor Sandra Thomas is recommending a budget of $17,637,000, nearly a $1 million increase over the 2005 county budget. Discussions on whether county employees will be given a pay raise will take place beginning this week, Jim Plunkett, county commissioner said.

After living in Platte City most of his life, John Andre decided it was time to give back to the community that he has called home for many years. Now Andre will get his chance to serve the community, at least until the election in April, after the board of aldermen voted to appoint him to the vacated seat in ward three. The seat was vacated when Melody Doescher moved out of the ward.
