The unexpected death of an active Downtown Parkville businessman shook his customers, friends, family and fellow business people over the weekend. Frank McCall, 49, of Parkville, owner of Frank’s Italian Restaurant, was stricken at his mother’s home near Parkville on Sunday. His brother, Jim McCall, said paramedics told him Frank appears to have suffered a heart attack.

At North Platte’s Homecoming on Saturday, Katie Caldwell of Edgerton was crowned the 2009 queen with Ben Crumley of Camden Point named king. Also honored were the 2009 Princess and Prince Nicole Pawling and Michael Hyatt, both from Edgerton. The Panthers added to the celebration by beating Rock Port 34-7.

Southern Platte County residents should have a new connection to I-635 from Hwy. 9 in the coming weeks. Riverside Community Development Director Mike Duffy said the final steps to complete the Horizons Parkway project should take place by the end of this week or early next week. After a walk-through by the Missouri Department of Transportation, the road will be ready for travelers. Duffy reported to the Riverside Board of Aldermen last week that the city is only waiting on Kansas City Power and Light to install electrical lines to the traffic signals.
