Platte County’s elected officeholders in essence gave themselves a thumbs up on Monday, approving a motion that will increase officeholder salaries, some beginning in 2011 and others in 2013. The amount of the pay increase will be six percent. Only Jim Plunkett, second district commissioner, voted no.

The Landmark won four statewide awards in the annual Missouri Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. The newspaper was noted in the categories of best front page, best editorial pages, best feature writing, and best sports photo.

Charges of assault will not be pursued against a businessman and a newspaper publisher who were involved in a late-night altercation last month. The municipal court appearances for Tom Hutsler, 54, downtown Parkville businessman, and Mark Vasto, 37, who publishes a weekly newspaper distributed in Parkville, were orginally scheduled for last Thursday but neither case appeared on the docket. Hutsler said Peter Schloss, city prosecutor, has told Hutsler’s attorney the charge against him was dropped. Vasto confirmed in a phone conversation with The Landmark that his charge has also been dropped.
