In the spring, $12.2 million federal CARES Act money was distributed to the Platte County Commission by the state treasurer. The state treasurer at the time asked the commissioners to pass $6 million of that to the City of Kansas City, based on the fact half of Platte County’s population is comprised of Kansas City residents.

A primary intent of CARES Act aid was to assist public agencies in their expenses/response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Platte County has not yet shared any of the $12.2 million with the health department or any other public agency.
