“There was no lack of quality in the projects,” Nowotny said.

Nowotny added that double the amount of grant money was given this year as compared to previous years.

“It seems like a lot of needs are being met with this,” Presiding Commissioner Betty Knight said.

The grants are awarded using money from the county’s half cent sales tax for parks.

Commissioners also approved a contract for the Platte County Sheriff’s Department to offer animal control services to the City of Dearborn.

An agreement was also made appointing UMB Bank as paying agent and bond registrar for Platte County Missouri Neighborhood Improvement District, also known as the Parkville Commons Project.

Several bids were awarded for county offices during Thursday’s session.

A bid was awarded for four wheel drive vehicles for Planning and Zoning. The bid was awarded to Roberts Auto Plaza for a four wheel drive Chevrolet Blazer.

A bid was awarded to GW Van Keppel, Kansas City, Kan., for a motor grader for the Public Works department.

According to Dale Thomas, the bid was not the lowest bid, but it was the best bid. Total bid price, including a five year warranty was $88,325.

American Equipment Company, Kansas City, Kan., was awarded a bid for dump trucks and related equipment. The request was made by public works.

County commissioners also signed an agreement with the Navy for loan of the USS Platte bell featured in a recent article in The Landmark.

According to Cheryl Thorp, Convention and Tourism director, arrangements are being made to house the bell Platte County recently required from the USS Platte.

Thorp also said there are a few crew members who are planning on being on hand for the dedication of the bell.
