Set up of big time carnival ride was underway early this week at the Platte County Fairgrounds in Tracy. Evans Midland Empire Shows, Inc. will provide the thrilling rides for fair-goers this year, including one called the Ring of Fire. The fair runs Wednesday through Sunday.


Directors of the Old Towne Market Community Improvement District were left again without approval for their most recent slate of proposed board members after Mayor Gerald Richardson, in an effort to postpone the vote to include absent alderman Jeffrey Bay, called upon his authority to reject–without a vote–the proposed lineup of officers. The controversial action took place at the Parkville Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday night.

If you’re a Verizon Wireless customer in the Platte City area, the reception for your cellular device is about to be improved. So say company officials who were on hand at City Hall in Platte City on Monday to talk about an agreement with the city. Under the pact, Verizon will place a cell tower disguised as a 104 ft. high foul pole at one of the city ball fields near Fourth Street and Hwy. 92. Chris Burt, director of retail sales for Verizon, said the new tower will substantially improve cell reception for Verizon customers in Downtown Platte City. Currently Verizon customers complain of spotty service inside downtown buildings.
