Jenny Shay was crowned queen of the Platte County Fair. Jenny, a 1995 graduate of Park Hill High School, was also named Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants. She was sponsored by Wells Dairy. Ashley Jenks, sponsored by Platte Professional Eye Care, was named first runner-up. Jennifer Cox, a 1995 graduate of North Platte High School who was sponsored by The Landmark Newspaper, was named second runner-up.

The heat–with temperatures over 100 degrees–held down the crowds at the fair until Saturday night, when there was an excellent turnout for the mud marathon.
