In accordance with National Public Health Month, the Platte County Health Department (PCHD) is partnering with the Platte County Ministerial Alliances to initiate a county-wide drive to support our local soldiers.

“Health not only involves physical health, but also mental, spiritual and social health. This project is designed to provide emotional support to our local heroes and also build community support in this time of emotional uncertainty. People want to help, but don’t always know how. This is a way to become involved,” PCHD Director Mary Jo Everhart said.

The PCHD is seeking the names and addresses of deployed soldiers with family from Platte County, in order to distribute care packages to our military heroes. If you know someone, please call the Platte County Health Department with the service member’s full name (with our without rank or rating) and the Unit. PCHD must have the APO/FPO address with the nine-digit zip code. Please call (816) 858-2412 and ask for Ame’ or Janice or email information to wallia@lpha.health.state.mo.us.

PCHD is requesting donations of items to be included in the care packages. Only the following limited items will be accepted: • Lip balm • Sun screen -SPF 30+ • Personal wipes/facial wipes-small packages • Kool-Aide-presweetended powdered packets • Hard candy and gum-individually wrapped • Phone cards-international ship to shore only • Magazines • Local newspapers • Writing materials, greeting cards and pens. • Word puzzle books • Snack foods in small packages (2 ounces)

Donated items may be dropped off at the following locations: Platte County Health Department, 212 Marshall Road, Platte City or Platte County Health Department, 4443 NW Gateway, Riverside.

You may contact any Platte County Church to see if they are an established drop site for this drive.

The cost of shipping one eight pound box is approximately $15. PCHD is in need of tax-deductible monetary donations to assist with this cost of shipping. Please send donations to: Platte County Health Dept. 212 Marshall Road Platte City, Mo. 64079 Attn: Michelle The collection deadline for this initial drive is April 25.
