Barth has been renovating the former Shirley’s Fashion Center building at 339 Main Street across from the Platte County Courthouse into a restaurant space. Barth explains the interior walls have been sandblasted to expose the original brick walls of the 1895 structure.

Barth said the Italian restaurant is anticipated to open around May 1.

Shirley’s former spot is one of eight buildings the Barths have purchased on Main Street in Platte City in the past 2.5 years, a string of acquisitions that began with their purchase of the historic 1869 Landmark Newspaper building from Ivan and Linda Foley in the fall of 2023.

David and Jennifer recently reopened Bee Creek Bistro after having purchased that building at 242 Main Street. Jennifer is managing the daily operations at Bee Creek.

Lottie and Lou, a locally-owned business founded by three cousins that offers a unique selection of apparel celebrating Kansas City pride, will be opening in late March inside the former Landmark building at 252 Main Street.
