Sprinkle given 12 years for molesting young girlMark Sprinkle, 42, Sedalia was sentenced in the Platte County Circuit Court on Oct. 10, to 12 years in the Missouri Department of Adult Institutions.

Sprinkle was found guilty by a Platte County jury on Aug. 29, of two counts of child molestation in the first degree. Sprinkle was living in the Northcrest Apartments in Riverside when the offenses occurred in the spring of 1997.

The victim, a seven to eight year-old girl at the time of the offenses, was a relative of Sprinkle’s. She was residing in the defendant’s household in order to complete her school year, prior to relocating to be with her mother.

The jury recommended sentences of six years on each of the counts. Child molestation in the first degree is a class C felony with a maximum range of punishment of seven years in the department of corrections. Platte County Circuit Judge Abe Shafer followed the jury’s recommendations and ordered Sprinkle to serve those sentences consecutively.

“I am extremely pleased with the court’s sentence today,” explained Tammy J. Glick, Platte County Prosecuting Attorney.

“The jurors of Platte County recommended six years on each count and by following that recommendation and ordering consecutive sentences, we can rest assured Mr. Sprinkle will not be preying on other young children for a long time.”
