Hannah Rickman, this year’s Platte County Fair Queen, finished fourth in the competition for Missouri State Fair Queen at the State Fair in Sedalia last week.


Former Platte County assistant prosecutor Rob Willard has announced his candidacy for treasurer of Platte County. Willard, a Republican, is seeking to replace Bonnie Brown, Democrat, who will be hanging it up at the end of her current term in 2012. “I will be 66 next year. I plan on moving to Florida,” said Brown, who will have 12 years in office under her belt when she calls it quits.

A special prosecutor is expected to soon be assigned to examine the results of an internal investigation at the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. An investigation into the e vents that led to the suspension then retirement of Cpt. Steve Johnson, a 27-year veteran of the department, is now complete.


A title change is coming for the chief of the West Platte Fire District. Plans to combine the two job titles of “administrative fire chief” and “emergency medical services administrator/supervisor” into one with a combined job description and a new title of “administrator of emergency services” are underway. Operator error was blamed for a fatal fire at Old Geezer’s Mantiques in Downtown Weston on July 4. Shop owner George Treese died in the blaze.
