There’s a new alderman in Weston. Approved by a 2-0 vote Monday night, Weston Mayor C.R. Carter has appointed Tim Hill to complete the term of alderman Amiah McCaulley who resigned, citing personal reasons, on June 27. Hill was one of two applicants for the position. The other was Joyce Burch.

Led by the Platte County Multi-Jurisdiction Enforcement Group, a near-dawn raid Saturday eradicated a marijuana grow operation of 4,900 plants with an estimated wholesale value of $9.8 million and a street value of $15.6 million. The grow operation was located in a secluded section of property owned by the Kansas City International Airport, which in turn is owned by the City of Kansas City, and covered roughly an acre of the airport’s 10,000 acre property. Erik Holland, captain of the administration for the Platte County Sheriff’s Department, said there was no indication that airport personnel were aware of the operation and there are also no suspects in the operation at this time.

No charges. That’s the word this week from Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd in regard to the head-on crash of two Central Platte Fire District pumper trucks in May. About 4 a.m. on May 9, the two large fire trucks operated by members of the Central Platte Fire Department collided while responding to a structure fire on Hwy. HH east of Platte City.
