KC PARKS AND REC WELCOMES SUMMER
Kansas City Parks and Recreation welcomed summer by officially commemorating the opening of outdoor pools and water parks for the 2026 summer season on Friday, May 29.
A ceremony at The Springs Aquatics Center, 9400 N Congress Ave, Kansas City, MO 64153, was held May 29, featuring Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, 2nd District At Large Councilmember Lindsay French and KC Parks Director Chris Cotten.
KC Parks outdoor pools temporarily opened during Memorial Day weekend and officially reopened for the season on Thursday, May 28.
Meanwhile, KC Parks spraygrounds opened Saturday, May 23, and have remained active citywide ever since.
Over $400,000 worth of improvements have been made to Kansas City’s outdoor aquatic facilities this year, including:
·The Bay Aquatic Center: $283.5k, sprayground plumbing conversion, inntertube replacement
·Budd Park Pool: $69.5k, pumproom and gutter replacements, point-of-sale system
·Grove Park Pool: $4.5k, point-of-sale system
·The Springs Aquatic Center: $23.5k, gutter repairs, innertube replacement
·All pools: $21k, life jackets and safety supplies
