More than 5,000 Platte-Clay Electric cooperative members were without power due to the ice storm that hit the Northland last week. The surrounding areas of Weston, DeKalb, Dearborn, Plattsburg, Lathrop and Cameron were hardest hit. A majority of the outages were restored within five hours after the first reported outage at 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. All power was restored by Saturday afternoon, with some small outages reported due to ice melting on Sunday.
Representatives from Boomtown explained the company’s decision to aim for a Riverside location instead of the original I-435 and FF Highway site to the Platte County Commission on Thursday. The decision was due to “a change in the licensing landscape over the last eight months which necessitated submitting absolutely the strongest possible application to the Missouri Gaming Commission, Boomtown representative Peter Goelz told commissioners.
John Bless, former Platte County public administrator, last week entered a guilty plea to stealing $2,500 from an estate in his care. Bless entered the plea Friday in Platte County Circuit Court. Sentencing has been set for Jan. 27. Bless, 44, was public administrator for 12 years. He faces up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
