Minnie Robker celebrated her 102nd birthday on Dec. 1 at the Platte City Caring Center. Mrs. Robker’s friend for 52 years, Nellie Cruger and two nieces from Leavenworth came for the celebration. Another niece, Bertha Strakemeyer, is a resident at the center. Mrs. Robker is originally from Farley.
The Platte County Golf Course project came another step closer to completion with Platte County authorizing the issuance of bonds in the amount of $3.795 million. Construction documents concerning the ground lease and regarding operation of the project were also signed. Roxsen Koch, bond counsel, said the next step is waiting for a rating from Moody’s, which she said is expected by Dec. 10. In the spring the county will have the option of going out for bids or operating the golf course themselves, she said.
Five Park Hill High School journalism students have been honored for outstanding achievement on a national level. At the recent Journalism Education Association National Scholastic Press Association fall convention, senior Andrea Dawson won a “superior” rating, the highest given, for newspaper photography. Andrea is the daughter of Larry and Paulette Dawson. Four other Park Hill students received “excellent” ratings: senior Gabe DeArmond for sportswriting; junior Jason Spacek for newswriting; junior Kristen Bayless for yearbook photography; and senior Rochelle Kienzle for yearbook cover design.
