Wright, Palmer engage in spicy battle for recorder

Handcrafted and homegrown

A copy of The Landmark accompanied Frank Offutt, former longtime mayor of Platte City, on a recent trip to Alcatraz Island. Alcatraz  is a 22-acre rocky island located a little more than a mile offshore from San Francisco, Calif. Best known for its infamous former maximum-security federal penitentiary, it also features a layered history that includes a 19th-century military fort and the West Coast’s first lighthouse. While near the former penitentiary, Offutt, currently executive director of Public Water Supply District No. 4 in Platte County and a member of Gov. Mike Kehoe’s Safe Drinking Water Commission, noted that the prison’s water tower “could benefit from a paint job.” Headed somewhere noteworthy? Take a copy of The Landmark and snap a photo with the newspaper prominently displayed. Email your picture and information to ivan@plattecountylandmark.com.
