The Platte City Police Committee discussed the topic of a new noise ordinance that would be implemented in 2008. The city recently approved several goals for city departments to achieve next year. According to Keith Moody, city administrator, the police committee has 19 of the 41 goals approved by the board of aldermen and Police Chief Richard Sayles. One of those goals is to develop a new noise ordinance for the city which would be enforced with the use of a new decibel meter.
Parkville Police Department uncovered what is believed to be the largest amount of marijuana ever discovered within its city limits last week. Two Parkville officers were conducting a traffic stop near the area of Hwy 45 and I-435 when a hunter informed them he had discovered a cultivated marijuana patch in a wooded area west of Brink Meyer Road and north of River Road. Officers located an active “cash crop” marijuana growing operation. Officers recovered 154 growing plants and nearly 25 cut, drying plants, along with tools, chemicals and accessories used to produce the drug. Value of the 55 pounds of marijuana was estimated at $33,000.
West Platte School District canceled classes on Tuesday in order for crews to disinfect the buildings in the midst of an outbreak of methicillin-resistant staph infection. According to Superintendent Kyle Stephenson, the district has two students who have been treated for MRSA.
