div class=”postie-post”>The Platte County Sheriff’s Department will crack down on those who don’t buckle up. Sheriff Tom Thomas said that a survey taken by Deputy David Kissee indicated only a 47.88 percent compliance rate from 190 vehicles checked. Thomas said the state would like a 70 percent compliance. Platte County has been using a verbal warning system the past year but the county is still low on seat belt compliance.
Platte County Clerk Doris Gerner gave the oath of office to the new Platte County University Extension Council officers. They include Beth McPherson, Weston, treasurer; Jeff Denton, Parkville, secretary; Myron Calkins, Kansas City, vice-chairman; and Donna Curran, Parkville, chairman. The swearing-in took place at the annual Extension dinner at Wexford Place.
Cheryl and Jeff Rowland of Parkville are the parents of a baby girl. She has been name Portia Louise.
Brent Baxley, originally from Waco, Tex., will be the new minister at the Baptist Church. He is married and his wife’s name is Holly.
