The developer of the failed Executive Hills North, Inc. project near KCI has pleaded guilty to federal charges that he conspired to defraud two lenders in obtaining loans of more than $15 million. Ted Ehney, Jr. also agreed to help the government in an ongoing fraud investigation as part of a plea bargain with federal prosecutors. Ehney admitted before U.S District Judge Elmo B. Hunter on Monday that he conspired with others to defraud the now-defunct First Savings Bank and Trust, and Lutheran Brotherhood, a Minneapolis-based insurance company, in obtaining loans of more than $15 million. Ehney’s sentencing will be determined by the judge at a later date.
Members of the Platte County Business and Professional Association and the Northland Chamber of Commerce are being asked to consider a merger of the two organizations. In a letter to members, Kelley Martin, BPA president, and Edna Rindner, president of the Northland Chamber of Commerce, noted that there have been discussions about the benefits that could accrue from such a merger at various times in the past.
Kansas City Mayor Emmanuel Cleaver will be the guest speaker for the 15th annual banquet of the Platte County Business and Professional Association to be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Embassy Suites KCI. The 1991 Citizen of the Year Award will be presented.
