EDITOR:

This year, Americans across the country will celebrate an amazing milestone of 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the inception of our great nation.

Democrats oppose Amendments 4 and 5

The local conspiracy theory

Fifty-six men from 13 colonies, and later states, gathered to establish a country rooted in freedom and to “form a more perfect union.” While that phrase would not be written down for another 11 years when our Constitution was first adopted, that was where this country came from and how I view our mission as Americans.

“Perfect” already means that something is in its final and purest form, so why did our founders use “more perfect?” I believe it was because they knew, as we know now, that our country must continue to strive for improvement if we are to survive. We know now, as they knew then, that our country was and is supposed to evolve to meet its people’s needs.

As we continue to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, I hope to continue this discussion of how we can improve each person’s life in our beautiful Platte County.

And remember it’s your patriotic duty to vote.

Have a joyous, safe, and patriotic Independence Day.

       --Mary McKenna
         Candidate for

         Presiding Commissioner
