Sunday, June 21 was World Make Music Day 2026 and it prompted some area musicians to grab their concert band instruments and head to the lawn of the Platte County Courthouse in Platte City that evening. The group played for an hour, sight reading music and being directed by Jim Edwards, director of the Platte City Community Band.  Sight reading is the act of reading and performing a piece of written music in real time, at the correct tempo, without having seen or practiced it beforehand. In addition, sidewalk chalk was provided for the kids and kids at heart to be creative while the band was playing.
