It’s time for a yearly tradition.
The City of Platte City will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 25 at 10 a.m.
The event is held at the Platte City Cemetery, located at the intersection of Fourth and North Street.
Featured speaker will be Sgt. Jesse Bennett, United States Marine Corps retired. During his military career, Sgt. Bennett completed three overseas deployments, serving twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and once in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Bennett owns and operates Goin’ Postal in Platte City, and he is also a city alderman.
Jamie Kacz of the Platte City Chamber of Commerce will emcee the event. There will be color guard provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars and Boy Scout Troop 351.
The National Anthem will be performed by Brice Willson. Michael Lazio, pastor of Bethel House of Prayer, will provide the invocation.
There will be a wreath laying ceremony handled by the Platte Purchase Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Platte City Mayor Amber Brune will provide a few closing remarks, ahead of a rifle salute and the playing of Taps.
Willson will return to the microphone to sing America the Beautiful before the closing and retirement of colors.
Coffee and doughnuts will be available in the former Lions Club building located across the street from the cemetery.
