Support for retaining the one percent earnings tax in Kansas City was overwhelming south of the river–and perhaps surprisingly strong north of it–at Tuesday’s local election. It won 78-22 percent citywide. In Platte County, local voters favored its continuation with 68% in favor to 32% opposed.


The former controller for an Overland Park software company–who is also a former liquor store operator in Platte City–has admitted embezzling more than $2 million from the company. Karen Backues, 47, of Platte City, pled guilty in Platte County Circuit Court to multiple counts of stealing and forgery.

Members of Shiloh Springs Golf Club along with county commissioners, parks and recreation department staff and other interested citizens, discussed the past, present and future of the county-owned golf course at a public meeting last week.


A public hearing during a meeting of the Platte City public works subcommittee Monday evening drew limited commentary from citizens in regard to planned renovations of what some might term the awkward and dangerous intersection of Marshall Road and Hwy. 92. A shared project between the city and MoDOT for improvements is estimated at $941,867, according to Jason Metten, city administrator.
