The proposed new jail and law enforcement facility for Platte County, if approved by voters on March 5, is schedule to be completed by February of 1998. That was the word this week as county leaders began their “campaign” for passage of the half cent sales tax that wold fund construction of the proposed 145-bed facility. Platte County Commissioners are scheduled to unveil drawings and a model for the proposed structure following their regular session Thursday, which begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Platte County Administration Building. The proposed project is a 74,800 sq. ft. center that would provide space for 145 inmates, separated into eight groups according to factors such as severity of crime, age, behavior and security risk.
There are a couple of new developments this week in the case of the Camden Point police chief accused of making $20,000 in unauthorized telephone calls to a 1-900 psychic. Investigators say the calls were made September through December. Thomas T. Tobin posted bond of $5,000 on the charge of felony stealing. He has resigned his position as police chief.
Miranda Black, daughter of Dan and Glenda Black of Camden Point, competed in the 1996 Miss Missouri Teen All-American Pageant held Jan. 20-21 in the Grand Ballroom of the Holiday Inn-Westport in St. Louis.
