After 26 years of affiliation with the Platte County Sheriff’s Department, Captain Frank Hunter has announced his retirement from the sheriff’s department. Cpt. Hunter will end his tenure with the sheriff’s office on Feb. 4. During the last nine years, Cpt. Hunter has served as the administrative commander and primary public information officer for the sheriff’s department. Effective this week, Erik Holland will be the new administrative commander and primary public information officer for the sheriff’s department.
The Wilson Performing Arts Center at Platte County High School is the setting for this Saturday’s Miss Greater Kansas City Scholarship Pageant. Contestants from across the area will compete for the 2011 title that will carry them on to the Miss Missouri 2011 and Missouri Outstanding Teen 2011 title. This year, Offutt has agreed to provide the welcoming remarks after the invitation was offered by pageant officials. Pictured: Platte City Police Lt. A television station in the Kansas City area on Monday issued a report saying that a mountain lion was spotted in the Smithville area, and the report showed video of a cat taken by the property owner. Biologists for the Missouri Department of Conservation have looked at the posted video and say it is definitely not a mountain lion. It is either a bobcat or possibly even a large housecat, MDC officials say.
