Platte County closed for business Monday due to concerns about snowy roads and hazardous driving conditions. A winter storm on Monday dropped five to seven inches of snow in Platte County.
The Landmark was on hand in the hands of Platte County’s new state representatives during inauguration-related activity at the state capitol in Jefferson City last week. State Rep. Ron Schieber, 32nd district, and State Rep. Nick Marshall, 30th district, displayed a copy of The Landmark. Schieber and Marshall, both Republicans, were elected in November and took the oath of office last Wednesday. Schieber defeated incumbent Jason Grill in November and Marshall was elected over Democrat Lexi Norris for the seat vacated by the term-limited Jason Brown.
A Ray County man has admitted that he, not a cattleman, shot a mountain lion on Jan. 2. Conservation department officials say the admission brings their investigation to a close, and there will be no charges because the shooter feared for his life. The man admitted he shot the 115 pound mountain lion while hunting raccoons in rural Ray County.
The Platte City Board of Aldermen passed three bills at that will bring the proposed Windmill Creek subdivision closer to reality. The proposed subdivision is south of Hwy. 92 and east of I-29 on what is commonly known as Newby Farm.
