Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Williams of Dearborn will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 25, 1995. Freddie and Helen Joy Babcock were married in Troy, Kan. A reception will be given on Sunday, Aug. 27 from 2-4 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Platte City by their family, Karen and Justin Seckel of Dearborn, and Nancy, Jerry, Ashley and Jason Jenks, Platte City.


Owner Danny Black, Sr. and Danny Black, Jr. from Camden Point worked hard to exhibit their 1946 Ann Arbor Baler on Saturday during the Platte County Steam and Gas Engine Show. the machine has an air-cooled gasoline powered Wisconsin engine and was originally purchased in Boulder City, Missouri. The baler produces approximately 30 bales of hay per hour.

The ground rumbled and the steam blew as this 1921 Russell 25 horse-powered engine moved on the Platte County Fairgrounds Saturday during the steam and gas engine show. “The Boss” was driven by Stan Corkins, owner, from Faucett. Corkin is part-owner with Bob Blades from Farley.


The Platte City Swimming Pool will be closing for the season at the end of the business on Sunday, Aug. 20. City officials report the early closing is necessary to allow engineers and contractors to begin making accurate assessments of repairs.
