Several business owners are not happy with the frequency and length of power outages in Platte City and expressed their concerns to representatives of KCP&L at a meeting at City Hall Tuesday night. KCP&L acknowledged power outages are up by 30 percent from last year due to storms. Business owners present did not seem to be impressed and after about an hour of testimony appeared to become frustrated with a lack of useful information from KCP&L. “I haven’t heard a single answer, said Susan Stewart, owner of the Main Street Pet Resort in the 100 block of Main Street. “I’m really disappointed in what I’m hearing.” Stewart said her business was out of power for 9.5 hours after a storm on June 19. “I had 54 dogs, three cats and staff in the building. It was brutal on us.”
Gary Fleming, Jr. showed his stepson Taylor Bascue the finer points of operating the 1921 Case 65 horsepower steam engine, which was powering the sawmill at the 49th annual Platte County Steam Show last weekend.
State Rep. Jason Brown received word from the Missouri Department of Transportation that the public meeting for the project to replace the Platte River Bridge on Hwy. 45 at Farley has been scheduled for Aug. 26. It will take place at the Farley Fire Station. This hearing will allow the public an opportunity to comment on the design for the new bridge and learn about how construction will require road closure for Hwy. 45.
