Input sought for Downtown Platte City

The Platte City Board of Aldermen is holding a special closed session today (Friday) at 4:30 to take up the question of authorizing the execution of an employment contract with Richison.

Indications from wording in the proposed contract are that Matthew Bryan Richison goes by the name of Bryan. A Google search by The Landmark shows Bryan Richison is currently city administrator for the City of Arnold, Mo.

Arnold is a city with a population of 21,000 in northeastern Jefferson County. It is a suburb of St. Louis. Platte City’s population is roughly 5,000.

According to a public document showing the potential contract between Richison and Platte City, terms of the agreement would be for an initial period of two years, from July 21 of this year to July 20, 2027.

Twelve months prior to the expiration of the extended term, the board of aldermen shall vote whether or not to renew this agreement for an additional 12 months.

Annual compensation for Richison, subject to the signing of the contract by all parties, will be $140,000.

The $140,000 is the same salary amount that was being earned by Tom Cole, the city’s previous city administrator, who left earlier this year after about eight months on the job to pursue an entrepreneurial opportunity.

Marji Gehr, who served as city administrator from mid-2023 to early 2024 before being fired, had been earning a salary of $120,000.

More information on the potential new city administrator coming in the next print edition of The Landmark.
