A day-and-a-half long appeal hearing to settle her unemployment claim ended positively for Kendra Montgomery, a fired Platte County human resources worker. In addition to the positive news for the fired worker, details contained in the Missouri Division of Employment Security’s decision could signal another obstacle to the county in its civil lawsuit against the former worker. The verdict also further cut the credibility of Leanna Fannon, the payroll specialist still employed in the county’s HR department. “It was probably the longest unemployment hearing in the history of the state of Missouri,” Jim Plunkett, second district Platte County Commissioner, told The Landmark.

Just passing through. That was basically the situation for Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel on Thursday as he made a stop in The Landmark office in Downtown Platte City. Zweifel was accompanied by Jon Galloway, his director of communications and policy. Zweifel was passing through the Kansas City area and said he was “just dropping by to say hi.” Zweifel, a Democrat, was elected state treasurer in 2008 after previously serving as a state representative from Florissant.
