DEC. 13-15 AT BEN FERREL MUSEUM IN PLATTE CITY
Bubble lights, icicles, tinsel, ribbon candy, mercury-glass ornaments and garlands, 1940-1950’s board games and toys along with a tree decorated with vintage teacups – these are just a few examples of what you will see at the Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum’s Christmas celebration, called Miracle on Main Street.
The museum will open Dec. 13, 14 and 15 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Sunday, Dec. 15, a special tour will be offered at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. As guests walk through the museum, narrators will tell the story of miracles in legend and local lore.
The tour lasts approximately 20 minutes with a special treat at the conclusion.
Visitors on all three days will see beautiful décor that includes eight uniquely adorned Christmas trees.
In keeping with this theme there will be memorabilia from the 1940s ranging from an antique washstand display to a 1940s telephone and Platte County directories.
The museum’s Christmas decorators are Sue Van Amburg, who coordinates this event for Platte County Historical Society; Lisa Wittmeyer, (museum curator); Anne Jones of Weatherby Lake; Evie Knodel, Jamie Knodel, Janice Robinson and Joyce Taylor of Platte City; Joy Brooks of Liberty; Julie Lewis of Kansas City, North and members of the Platte Purchase chapter of DAR.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for children.
The Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum is a restored Victorian mini mansion located at 3rd and Ferrel St., Platte City.
