A demolition derby on Wednesday, July 23 will be one of the spectator highlights of the 117th annual Platte County Fair, scheduled July 23-26 at the fairgrounds in Tracy. The derby will also be held Thursday. The fair will also feature a carnival, steam engines, kids’ day, livestock show, arts and crafts, Dirty Shame Saloon, petting zoo, 4-H exhibits, fish fry, queen contest and dunking board.
A proposal for an emergency 911 service for Platte County was presented to the Platte County Administrative Court at its regular meeting Tuesday. Total cost of installation in the metro area would be $1.2 million, but the county’s share would be $19,667 for installation only, the judges were told. The court took the matter under advisement. Making the presentation were Peter S. Levi, executive director of the Mid-America Regional Council; Randall L. Clouser, account executive-government Southwestern Bell; and E. Ray Sell, district manager for United Telephone Company.

Army helicopter at the college campus. The jet, which dates from the Korean War era, had been used in the school’s aviation program since 1971. It was flown to Forbes Field in Topeka, Kan. to be restored.
