WORK IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN DECEMBER
The Platte County Commission has officially approved a $2.7 million construction bid with Straub Construction to renovate the historic Platte County Courthouse in Downtown Platte City.
“The renovation project is set to begin in December and will bring much-needed updates to this iconic building, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of the community for years to come,” the county commission said in a press release distributed this week.
The courthouse renovation will be done with federal funds that the county received through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), COVID relief money.
“The courthouse renovation is part of Platte County’s broader initiative to address deferred facility maintenance and implement critical improvements,” the news release states.
The county has allocated $20 million in ARPA recovery funds to modernize various public facilities and digitization of records.
Built in the 1860s, the Platte County Courthouse stands as a testament to the region’s rich history and its evolution over the past century and a half.
Originally constructed to serve a small rural community, the courthouse has remained the focal point of Platte County’s judicial and governmental operations.
“The upcoming renovations will ensure this historic landmark is not only preserved but also adapted to meet the needs of a modern judicial system,” the county says in its announcement.
Key upgrades include ADA compliance modifications, expanded courtrooms to accommodate increasing caseloads, and other general renovations that will help preserve the courthouse’s historic integrity while enhancing its functionality.
